Buying a home is one of the best financial decisions you can make! If you’re committing these mistakes, however, you’re wasting your money!

1. Allowing faucets and toilets to leak.
Every drip is not only wasted water, but wasted money. Fix your leaks and if you can’t fix it, call a plumber ASAP!

2. Ignoring leaky roofs.
When water seeps in, it not only damages the roof, which will cost money to fix, but it can also damage your home’s ceilings, walls and floors. Trapped moisture can breed mold too. At the first sign of a roof problem, call a roofing company to avoid further costly damage.

3. Using doors and windows even when they have broken seals.
Escaping air from your home costs you on your heating and cooling bills. Repair seals or replace the window or door.

4. You’re still using incandescent light bulbs.
If you’re still using old bulbs, you’re paying more for your electricity bill than if you switched to CFL or LED bulbs, which often have a longer life than incandescent bulbs!

5. Setting your thermostat too low in the summer/high in the winter.
Every degree that you adjust your thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer saves you cash. Programmable thermostats can do the work for you and save you even more.

6. Keeping old appliances.
Certified ENERGY STAR® appliances save you money. Replace old fridges, freezers, microwaves, dishwashers, etc, with newer models to save energy and money.
